Scandinavian Blues

Posted on: Friday, Dec 1, 2006

The Scandinavian countries seem to producing some of the best retro bands at the moment. It was only a few weeks since I posted about Arne Fjeld Rasmussen from Sweden (I’m still digging Groovy Gravy).

Now Grahame Rhodes tips me off about T. Leino Band. from Finland who have some great video clips available from the main website and also posted on YouTube.

Come on Ken, get a grip, put the whisky down & get your facts straight. Arne is NORWEGIAN (as are most of the best bluesmen east of the Humber) and he’s playing harp in the studio for the Vidar Busk band on that ‘myspace’ link. Vidar is a phenomenal guitarist who learnt his trade touring the states in harp-player Rock Bottom’s band about ten years ago. He can play absolutely ANY style & make it his own. Re the late Mr Rock Bottom, they liked him so much in Norway they named the cellar bar ‘Rock Bottom’s’ at Muddy Waters Club in Oslo. I met his widow over there this year & she is hugely honored by this gesture.

Oh by the way it’s GREASY Gravy not Groovy Gravy & they’re Norwegian too!!

Apologies due Ken – I just realised you were talking about Vidar’s track “Groovy Gravy” and not “Greasy Gravy” the band. Ah well, there’s another superb outfit for you to check out sometime & their AMAZING ex-frontman/ harpist Eirik Bergene. Both have myspace sites.

Indeed! I stand corrected – Arne is indeed Norwegian. I apologise to all the irate Scandinavians insulted by my mistake.
