Memo and the Bluescasters are without a doubt one of the finest blues bands in Europe, they have those Texas bar-room grooves nailed like no others in Europe. Dallas-born Memo certainly controls the grooves and he delivers his excellent songs with style and energy – he also delivers the gruff harmonica that adds to the mixture. However one should not overlook the European contribution of the incredible Kai Strauss on guitar and the occasional well delivered vocal. In my opinion, Kai’s rhythm work and solos are unsurpassed in Europe.
As with all blues the lead instruments are nothing without a top rhythm section and the Bluescasters are excellent in this capacity. The many drummers of the band have always been paired with the gentle giant Erkan Ozdemir who is a master of the simple but grooving bass. The current drummer is Henk Punter who can shuffle with the best.
If you have not seen the phenomenon that is Memo Gonzalez and the Bluescasters then you owe it to yourself to go to Warrington and have the autumn blues treat of a lifetime. Check out Memo’s site to find out more. I love these guys.
On this gig only, the Bluescasters will be supported by Liverpool band “Band of Thieves”. On first glance blues lovers will be unlikely to recognise the name, however let me tell you that Band of Thieves are led by the finest blues guitarist in the north of England Neil Partington. Having played with legends such as Jools Holland and David Gilmour, Neil has been leading funk and soul bands for the last 10 years but he has finally has seen the light and has gone back to his roots and is back playing his true love – blues. The best part about this is that – after 10 years of soul, his great voice of 10 years ago is now outstanding. The band will be joined on this gig by yours truly on the harmonica – the first time that the two of us from the well remembered blues band “Down at Antones” have played together since the band split over 10 years ago.
With the local talent of Band of Thieves and the headline of the outstanding Memo Gonzalez and the Bluescasters this should be a night to remember and will kick of the autum season at Warrington in fine style.
I’ll see you there….
