Gig: Wilko Johnson – St. Helens – 15 Sept

The Citadel, St Helens
Sat 15th Sept 2007
On Saturday 15th September Wilko Johnson and his band will launch The Citadel Autumn 2007 performance programme.
Wilko Johnson started out as guitarist and songwriter for the 70’s pub-rock pioneers Dr Feelgood, and was also a principle member of Ian Dury’s Blockheads.
Johnson’s choppy guitar style and interesting dress sense rocked many pubs during the 1970’s. He then joined Ian Dury and The Blockheads after leaving Dr Feelgood, before forming the Wilko Johnson band.
Prior to that, Wilko had already founded Solid Senders but is, of course, most famous for founding legendary Canvey Island RnB band Dr Feelgood with Lee Brilleaux in the early 70s.
As a solo artist Wilko has become one of the UK’s best loved RnB acts. Joined by Norman Watt-Roy (Blockheads, Selector, Gabrielle) on bass and Monti (Jesus & Mary Chain) on drums.
With Wilko’s insane stage performance, this powerful trio have earned a reputation as one of the best live acts you’re likely to see. Anyone who sees him is guaranteed a great night out and to become a lifelong fan.
Tickets for this event are priced at £12 and £10 for concessions. Doors open at 7.30pm.
