Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story

Here’s the trailer for the a new documentary series that will run in the US on the PBS network from August. I hope this comes to the UK.

PBS’ Great Performances series presents Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story. Narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, the film tells the story behind the legendary label that launched such soul music greats as Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, the Staple Singers, Isaac Hayes, Eddie Floyd, Carla and Rufus Thomas, Albert King and Booker T. and the MGs.

I hope that this gets picked up by the BBC. I suppose that the excellent BBC4 will be the natural home in the UK.

Let me know if you hear anything and I’ll make a further announcement if we get the show.

It’ll probably get hidden away from the mainstream UK screens for about 2-3 years like the incredible ‘Standing In The Shadows Of Motown’ did. If it was an ‘X-Factor – Behind The Scenes’ documentary though…..
