Review: Smokehouse Blues, Warrington – 05 Oct 2007

I popped over to Warrington to see the new look Smokehouse Blues and I have to say that I was impressed. The new rhythm section of Russ Williams on bass and Mark Donaldson on drums have catapulted the band to the next level, giving the two front men of Barny Barnett and Johny Hewitt the inspiration to play the best that I have seen them. As ever an enthusiastic crowd in Warrington enjoyed the band and the dance floor was full for the majority of the second set.
Some old Smokehouse favourites were in evidence with a large handful of new tunes notably “Mellow Down Easy”. The second change was to see a brace of the songs handled admirably by Russ singing from behind the double bass.
All in all a fine night of blues. I’m not much of a reviewer so I’ll just post a picture then get out of here.
