YouTube: Jimmie Vaughan

How good is this?

Jimmie Vaughan live in the UK in 2000.

Killer band – love the Hammond of Bill Willis (I think), holding the groove and playing the left hand bass.

Have to laugh at some of the comments posted about this clip on YouTube, mainly from our American friends and the amount of stick Jimmie Vaughan’s playing gets! In my humble opinion he is a truly great player with killer tone and groove and from the ‘less is more’ school. To see postings that he is only where he is because of SRV just make me howl, and about being blown off-stage by Buddy Guy – each to their own, but I know who I prefer! Oh, apparently the second guitarist is Billy Pittman – brother of Shawn? Rant over, happy new year to all.

Spot on Grahame!
There’s a lot of JV fans out there, not least Sandie, a myspace friend of ours, whose page is a fantastic tribute to the guy.

What a killer performance! That’s really lifted snapped me out of my post-Christmas blues. And like you, Ken, I really got off on that oh-so-soulful hammond playing. Had to laugh at some of the ill-informed comments…”sounds like a high school garage band”. I sure as hell wish I’d gone to your high school, buddy! Cheers for that, Ken.
