Digital Spy – Lyric etched on Peel’s gravestone

Not much blues content, but I always loved John Peel and it’s my site so I’ll publish what I want.

Music – News – Lyric etched on Peel’s gravestone – Digital Spy

The only blues content is that some of the first blues material that I ever heard was on the John Peel show.  Back in the late 70s when I was an overweight spotty-faced teenager (as opposed to now when I am overweight, spotty faced and middle-aged) Peely used to play George Thorogood tunes.  Even then I loved the blues material.

The Undertones? Liverpool Football Club? Aren’t we going a bit down-market here?

Oh! I can go a lot more downmarket than that. I’m from Hudderfield orginally so my vote would be for a quotation from Harold Wilson and the Terriers crest.

Not knowing anything about association football I have to be careful here. I suspect that the downmarket comment is more to do with the choice of football team than the very excellent Undertones.

Maybe is it had been Tranmere Rovers or Everton then Lionel would have been OK?

So let us all know Lionel – would you have preferred a story about lyrics from The Clash and an Everton crest?
