Film: The Honeydripper

Posted on: Thursday, Mar 13, 2008

I heard an interview with John Sayles on the radio the other week.  He was talking about his new film “The Honeydripper”.  This certainly has a lot of blues content and history.  The film features Gary Clark Jr, a man who has received a lot of interest in recent years.

It’s 1950. Dusty roads and the cotton is high in Harmony, Alabama.

Honeydripper. It’s the name of the juke joint run by Tyrone Purvis. Things aren’t going well for Ty, whose place is more a social club for old bluesmen than a going concern.

Starring starring Danny Glover, Lisa Gay Hamilton, Charles Dutton, Vondie Curtis Hall, Keb Mo, Mary Steenburgen, and introducing Gary Clark, Jr.

Written and Directed
by John Sayles

Due for UK release May 2009.
