The blues scene in the northwest of the UK has lost one of it’s own.  I am sad to report that blues lover, blues promoter and bluesman Brian Jeffery lost his long battle with illness and passed away last Saturday at 16:45.

I never got to meet BJ face to face but we exchanged emails with the joint aim to publicise blues events in this region.  BJ was the gig guide on the Lancashire Blue Notes radio show and was the organiser of the BJ’s Blues at the Hop Pocket gigs.

Brian leaves behind a devoted wife and a loving young daughter.

RIP Brian (BJ) Jeffery

Like Ken I never met BJ, but speaking as a North West blues lover I can appreciate his devotion to the music – as a musician, promoter and fan – I would like to pass on my deepest sympathies to his family and all who knew him.

We were both very sorry to hear that BJ has passed away.

We have been to the Hop Pocket a few times over the last 12 months. It is a really pleasant venue and it was nice to meet BJ and his wife. They always made us feel very welcome, and his death is a great loss to everyone who got to know him.
