CATHEAD MINI FESTIVAL AND PINETOP PERKINS HOMECOMING AT HOPSON PLANTATION, CLARKSDALE

OCT 11th 2008

The Sunday after “The Biscuit” involves a visit to Clarksdale Mississippi for Roger Stolle’s mini festival, always a friendly enjoyable intimate event. Unfortunately a delayed start to the morning meant that L.C.Ulmer was missed, however a great set by Robert Belfour of north Mississippi blues was followed by R.L.Boyce both of whom feature on “M For Mississippi” the superb new dvd released by Roger Stolle and Jeff Konkl of “Broke and Hungry” records. This dvd had its premier on October 7th and is to be recommended as a brilliant insight into blues in the region. www.mformississippi.com

Before Robert “Bilbo” Walker could be enjoyed, a move to get a good spec at Hopson’s Plantation for Pinetop Perkins homecoming was made.  Taking place in the old commissary building, the event involves a six hour jam with many of the musicians from “The Biscuit” taking place. Those present were Bob Margolin, Willie “Big Eyes”Smith, Bob Stroger, Kenny “Beady Eyes” Smith, Bill Abel, R.J.Mischo, Michael Burks, The Hiser Brothers, Billy Gibson, Roger “Hurricane” Wilson, Guitar Mikey , Bert Deivert, Lightning Malcolm and Cedric Burnside, Super Chikan and of course the inimitable Pinetop Perkins.

A wonderful relaxed way to finish four days of brilliant music – roll on next year.
