Got a copy of “Light: On The South Side” a couple of weeks ago and it’s superb – a double album chock full of obscure 45’s from back in the day, with wailing blues harp and lowdown primitive funky grooves – Little Walter meets Dyke & The Blazers is the best way I can describe it. The accompanying book is excellent too, as the photographs really capture a flavour of what it must have been like in the South Side clubs back then with sharp dudes and foxy ladies stutting their stuff, while the memorabillia is fascinating. My copy cost me £48, so it ain’t cheap, but if you’re feeling a little self-indulgent, it’s well worth snapping up a copy and digging those Windy City 70’s grooves!
