Big Pete & the Backbones
at Liverpool Marina

Thursday 20th May 2010 (doors: 8pm, show starts at 8.45pm)

Fronted by singer/harmonica player ‘Big Pete’ van der Pluijm, The Backbones are brilliant exponents of the blues and the pride of Holland. Pete’s rise to prominence started when, at the age of 23, he was hand-picked to fill the giant shoes of the late Lester Butler, the legendary leader of The Red Devils, for a European memorial tour with Lester’s original band members. Their appearances proved so popular and successful that several more tours with The Lester Butler Tribute Band (also featuring UK guitar phenomenon Matt Schofield) established Pete as one of the premier new generation blues performers in the Benelux region.

Picking up where Lester’s influence left off, Pete formed The Strikes, a young band with a hard edged 21st-century blues sound. Their 2004 album “Bathroom Acoustics” received widespread critical acclaim. The Backbones have honed that style to perfection, providing a superb foundation for Pete’s tremendous ability on harp. This is one of the finest blues bands in Europe; and this is a ‘must-see’ gig for all genuine blues enthusiasts.

This is one not to miss. The Backbones gig at this venue last year was my club gig of the year.

See you there.
