Eden Arts are proud to welcome Elkie Brooks as part of its programme of events at the Penrith Leisure Centre, which has already seen the likes of international stars Bill Bailey and Earl Thomas. Elkie Brooks has been in the business for five decades and is still proving to be one of the most popular live performers in the country. Recent reviews testify that Elkie, now 65, still has the voice, versatility and va-va-voom to keep audiences wowed, with a huge range of tunes in her repertoire from rock to jazz to ballads. Born Elaine Bookbinder, 1945 in Salford, Elkie Brooks has become one of the most successful and respected singing talents in the UK. Her career has seen her produce 19 studio albums and receive numerous awards and accolades; Elkie is back on the road for what promises to be another very special tour.
As a 15-year-old with a passion for the blues, jazz and great artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Elkie left her childhood home to pursue dreams of becoming a singer. Early professional engagements included appearances with the Eric Delaney Band and British Jazz hero Humphrey Lyttelton.
The public have been flocking to watch Elkie perform for many years, but those who have seen her over the last few have witnessed some of the most incredible performances of her career. Her passionate performances and her warmth with the audience have made her an unforgettable live experience.
