“Build Me A Statue”
25 Songs: 1995-2010

Here’s a nice book from Estonian  musician, writer and guitarist, Andres Roots, a member of the very fine band, Bullfrog Brown – a collection of 25 song lyrics spanning some 15 years, and illustrated by Siret Roots. Andres Roots has just also enjoyed major success at home with his “Redecoration Day” single, on which he was joined by Eric Gebhardt and Bottleneck John.

His acoustic slide playing may be rooted in the past and heavily influenced by the Delta blues greats, but his words are certainly from the present, dealing with modern themes and life, and he accepts that Tartu, Estonia is a long way from Clarksdale, Mississippi, thus the lyrics reflect this.

I won’t go into the themes in the songs, that perhaps would spoil the enjoyment of the lyrics here, but highly recommend the music of Bullfrog Brown as an accompaniment, and indeed a discography is to be found in the book, as well as a fine foreword by British harmonica player Steve Lury, who has collaborated with the band on some of their recordings.

Now available in the UK from the very fine
