Review: Andres Roots – Thru The Valley

CD single: 1. Thru The Valley 2. Lemon Days
(Roots Art Records: RAR1002)

Following on from major success at home in Estonia with the previous single, “Redecoration Day”, comes the new single from Bullfrog Brown member, Andres Roots, and friends – namely Bottleneck John (vocal, track 1), Eric Gebhardt (vocal, track 2), Jantso Jokelin (harmonica, tracks 1 & 2, and beatboxing, track 2) and Raul Terep (percussion and digeridoo, track 1) – with himself playing guitar on track 1 and Dobro on track 2.

The two tracks are in a folky blues mode, with “Thru The Valley” featuring Sweden’s Bottleneck John on vocal, with some lovely picked guitar from Roots, giving the tune an almost Eastern feel and some sweet harmonica from Jantso Jokelin.

“Lemon Days” has a more straight Delta blues feel, with some toughter, and very impressive, harmonica and Andres Roots slide guitar and a gritty vocal from American singer, Eric Gebhardt.

Andres Roots is a talented guy, and here together with his friends, has released another fine cd single – again recorded at White Room in Tartu, Estonia.
