Here are the blues and jazz events for Alexander’s in Chester

Thursday 30 September – Bullitt.£6 (£5 advance)
Blues rockers Bullitt reformed after 35 years with original line up Mark Yates (vocals), Robbie Laurence (guitar), Keith Reilly (guitar), Martyn Cooley (bass) & Simon Lees (drums), Influences range from the early Cream & Free to Southern rock bands The Allman Brothers & The Black Crowes. Bullitt are a straight ahead, classic rock ‘n roll band who celebrate glory days of rock culture like no other. It’s loud & tough but honest.

Thursday 7 October – Steve Gibbons Band. £10
Hard driving, country flavoured classic rock ‘n roll fronted by this legendary rhythm and blues guitarist/vocalist. Steve has four decades of inspirational music to his name – and the guitar to play it with! Widely recognised as one of the most powerful performers around, the term “stage presence” could well have been coined for Gibbons. Born in Birmingham, he first came to prominence as the leader of ‘The Uglys’, then By the early 1970s he had formed the five-piece ‘Steve Gibbons Band’ which enjoyed success in the singles charts during the next decade and has been perennially popular on the live circuit ever since. In the early 1980s, the Steve Gibbons Band became the first Western rock’n’roll act to be invited to tour in East Germany.
Pete Townsend said ‘Cool, voice perfect and handsomely road worn’.

The 3rd Wednesday of every month brings a rock & blues jam with the guitar & vocals from Black Manalishi plus guests. Come along & play.
Bangers ‘n Mash Wednesdays offer our speciality bangers ‘n mash (choice of 7 bangers, 5 mashes, 3 gravies) for only £3.95 including free entry. Served from 6pm.

Rampant Rhythm ‘n Blues with Soul.

Thursday 18 November – A Shrewdness of Apes. £5
Rip Roarin’ classic & contemporary blues with punchy horn section. Featuring Alexander’s favourites Charlie Goodfellas & Elise on the same stage!

Wednesday 24 November – Jazz Jam. £3
Great ambience to listen, great opportunity to play. All players welcome. Hosted by So What, led by Louis Noble

Thursday 25 November – Connie Lush & Blues Shouter. £10 (£8 advance)
Connie was voted Blues Personality of 2006 in the Digital Blues Awards & came second in the Favourite Female category. She is officially recognised as one of the finest blues singers the UK has ever produced winning Best UK Female Vocalist by Blues In Britain for 5 years and European Singer of the Year for 2003, 2004 & 2005.
Connie Lush is one of the most stunning & talented blues vocalists worldwide & makes a welcome return to Alexander’s with her band Blues Shouter.

Friday 26 November – The Funky Doctors. £7
The Funky Doctors led by drummer Liam Hardwick have one goal – that of being the funkiest and most professional Funk, Soul party band in the UK. The band comprises a powerhouse rhythm section of Hammond Organ, Guitar, Bass and Drums, and a funky horn section of Trumpet, Tenor Sax and Bari Sax. Not forgetting talented frontman Herbie !

Sunday 28 November – Root Chords. 2 – 5pm free
Root Chords play blues, country and folk based music from both sides of the Atlantic on acoustic instruments but with the power and drive of rock.
Sunday 28 November – Music For Life. £6
Cheshire Youth Music for Life Big Band is an exciting joint project run by the new Cheshire Councils and Music for Life , a not-for-profit music service for schools set up to showcase the talents of the best young jazz musicians in the county, and to offer them the opportunity to work alongside some of the best professional musicians including world-class trumpet player Allan Vizzutti, the singer Clare Teal & legendary British saxophonist, Sir John Dankworth.
The band’s repertoire is varied and includes music by Miles Davies, Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder and Robbie Williams along with original arrangements written especially for it by Andy Schofield.
Latin, rock, jazz, blues, samba – this band plays many contemporary styles. Come along and enjoy an exciting evening of great music played by the next generation of amazing young musicians!

From New Orleans trad with influences of blues & reggae this is a uniquely talented, entertaining jazz band playing a selection of Dixieland favourites.

Monday 27 December – Goodfellas. £7
Party to this amazing 10 piece soul & r’nb band with outstanding horn section.
