Gerry Rafferty passed away today.

When I was a young man/teenager, all the cool kids (plus me) used to hang out at a great pub called The Woodman in Thunderbridge, Yorkshire.

The landlord at the time allowed one of the gang to bring along a selection of 45s to add to the jukebox, needless to say the jukebox got a lot of playing in those days – even at the outrageous charge of 5p per play.

Eventually the jukebox broke – instead of just giving up the ghost, it started to play “Baker Street” by Gerry Rafferty all the time.  A selection of three songs would yield.

  • Baker Street
  • Your 1st choice
  • Baker Street
  • Your 2nd choice
  • Baker Street
  • Your 3rd choice
  • Baker Street

Even today, I can’t listen to that tune without thinking about the Woodman and all the good times.

RIP Gerry.

All together now….. duh dee dee duh-duh duhdehdoo, bom bom-bom bom-pe-bom, puuuuuuugh.
