Posted on: Wednesday, Jun 15, 2011

Its Blues meets Bluegrass this Thursday at the Kings Head in Carlisle with the ever popular Chris James taking centre stage supported by USA born Chuck Fish.

Chris has been a fixture on the Carlisle blues and folk scene for over 25 years with his authentic Mississippi delta sounds and electric finger picking guitar play. He has supported many of the finest live Blues acts around such as John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, The Hoax, and the The Nimmo Brothers as well as some of the finest acoustic folk / roots acts such as Clive Gregson, Boo Hewerdine, Maddy Prior and Paul Jones. Drawing inspiration from such bluesman as Robert Johnson, Reverend Gary Davis and Big Bill Broonzy his excellent slide guitar play supports the wide range of acoustic songs he delivers in his own inimitable warm laid back style. Recently he has been touring farther afield around the country to support his recent album release ‘Trick of the Light’.

Support for the evening is from Chuck Fish originally from Washington state in the USA but now playing authentic Americana / folk / country on guitar and banjo around the south of Cumbria. Chuck’s main musical influences are Townes van Zandt and Steve Earle and he has won a devoted following with his energetic and earthy live sets that remind the listener of Seasick Steve.

The gig starts at 8.30 and entry is free as long as sufficient real ale is consumed during the event. So sup up.

Tickets (£3) will be available on the night for the visit of folk legend Boo Hewerdine on 23rd of June. This will sell out so best gets your tickets on thursday!!
