bluesinthenorthwest.com ownership

Posted on: Monday, Aug 8, 2011

It is time for me to step aside and hand over bluesinthenorthwest.com.  Realistically, I just don’t have the time to keep the site running.  I am super busy with my day job and a large proportion of my limited time off is being taken in managing the site.

The activities are relatively simple.  Monitor the incoming mail feed, prepare the posts from the incoming information, managing the images used and updating the calendar.  Plus monitoring and approving comments.

I designed the system such that it is not tethered to any of my personal details and thus it can be handed on to anyone with the skills, passion and time.

The first post on the old Blogspot site was in Sept 2005 so we are just coming up to our sixth birthday.  We migrated to the hosted bluesinthenorthwest.com site in Nov 2006.  I think that I have served my time.

I have just re-registered the domains for another year so there will be no fees required on that front. The monthly hosting charge is a minimal fee and I will happily continue to pay that into 2012.

I know that Grahame managing the reviews is finding it equally hard to keep up to date and he would also love to receive some assistance.

I gratefully thank all contributors – most of all my bluesinthenorthwest.com partner Grahame, Lionel of course for a large number of great pieces and all the other people who contributed articles and information.

I also thank the legions of hardworking musicians, promoters and clubowners.  Without all of you the site would not have been needed.

Finally the readers and commenters – thanks to you all.  I have been humbled by the huge numbers of kind words over the years that I have received after starting the site.

I remain committed to the blues scene in the region and I invite volunteers to step forward.

The saddest news ever on here . . . being more in touch with Ken on a day-to-day basis than most I know how difficult it has been for him to balance the site demands with work. I don’t want to put too much on here at this stage as Ken and I will talk over a few beers about the way ahead . . . big surprise eh! . . . and we are both away on holiday soon. I’ll endeavour to keep the reviews coming best I can for now. I love this site and hope it remains to provide the North West blues fans with the great service they have had over the last six years. Thanks Ken, Lionel, John, Pete and Nick to name a few, and also anyone who has contributed or took time to follow the site.

Sad news indeed! Ken’s running of the website has been nothing short of magnificent and a great number of us are extremely grateful to him. He will be a very hard act to follow. We can only hope that an appropriate person will come forward in our hour of need to continue the good work. perhaps a meeting of interested parties would be a start towards finding a successor to Ken and to see to what extent duties might be shared among several people. Meanwhile, we can only express our deep thanks to Ken for all his wonderful work.

Be prepared to help as much as I can. This website has been a massive help to all involved in blues in the area and I’d personally like to thank my Yorkshire mate for all his hard work over the last 6 years.

Sad news indeed Ken, a decision I am sure you didn’t take lightly. To echo everyone’s thoughts, a big thank you for everything that you and all the other contributors on BITNW have done to keep people informed, promoting blues music and introducing it to other people as well. Hours and hours of dedicated work all done for the love and passion that you have for the blues. Not many people would have had the initiative and balls (can I say that?) to have gotten this thing off the ground and it has without a doubt certainly helped promote local live music in the NW! Happy to do whatever I can to help

Thanks to Ken for producing a wonderful and informative site. It must take a lot of hard work and commitment to maintain to such a high standard. Good luck and best wishes to whoever takes over the helm.
