The Midnite Johnny Band
At the Hop Pocket, Chorley
BJ’s Blues Club

A fantastic true blues guitar player, graced the stage last night.  John Morana, alias Midnite Johnny returned with a new line up to entertain the packed crowd at BJ’s  Chorley.
John, growing up in Florida after a family move, set about at an early age to immerse himself in the South Florida blues scene.  Over the next twenty five years or so he honed his craft and copied  guitar heroes of the day, and they were many, from both sides of the Atlantic.

Now based in the United Kingdom he is quickly establishing himself here as a master of the blues guitar. His style is varied and if you close your eyes he could be any one of his guitar heroes – Eric Clapton, Freddie King ,Elmore James, Albert Collins and many many more.  Outstanding work!

John thrives on the close contact of a audience and plays the blues effortlessly from one style to another.  A crowd pleaser in spades.  His own works were on display, from his debut album entitled “Lyin’ Eyes” that was featured on  the sound track of the movie “Suicide Blonde”.  Other great songs from the album are “Trouble Fallin’ Down (like Rain)”, “Walkin’ The Floor” and “Gypsy Curse”.   All are winners on this album, any blues fan would like this in their collection.

John has formed a great band here, and in some cases has  been working with them for less than twelve months but you wouldn’t have guessed it – their performance was tight and they seem to have this invisible thread linking them together, which is what you get when you work hard for one another to achieve greatness, and they will – they do have the skills and dedication to succeed.

The band were Norm Helm on bass and backing vocal – a cracking sound!  On the keys was Ian Cross.  Just excellent!  And on the drums Tim Franks.  A great drumming display!  All in all a marvellous  gig.  More please.
