The Maz Mitrenko Band – BJs Blues Club at The Hop Pocket, Chorley – 4th October, 2012

A terrific vibe was created on their debut at BJ’s by this excellent trio from the Birmingham area – The Maz Mitrenko Band – and from the very first chord struck the packed crowd new they we in for a fabulous nights entertainment and they got exactly that.

Maz, the front man and founder of the band, on lead guitar and lead vocal, set off at a cracking pace with “All Along The Watchtower” and showed off his many excellent guitar skills; the hot rhythm section was, on the bass guitar Paul Turner, and on the drums Phil Brittle – who the crowd could not take their eyes off – what a performer, and a brilliant time-keeper of the highest calibre and a showman in his own right – brilliant.

The band gave a mix of covers from the likes of  Jimi Hendrix, Willie Dixon, Big Joe Williams, Steve Earle, Robin Trower and Rory Gallagher, to name just a few. They also played several original works from their last two cd’s “Comin’ Thru” from 2007, “ “And Then Sum” from 2009, both works are still available from the band – a third cd is in the mix as we speak but as yet they have no title for the album, but they have laid down a few tracks – a work very much in progress as they say and if things go well the cd will probably be completed and released in early 2013.

I await this release with high expectations if the last two are anything to go by. The current members have been together for three years and are an established band on the Midlands circuit. I have no doubt in my mind that this trio are one of the best I’ve seen and heard to date – thank you for a great gig the Maz Mitrenko Band.
