“Little Miss Nitro” – alias Joan Bimson – mistress of the Rickenbacker bass guitar (two of the last time I counted them) was back in action with her band, The Extras, with her rock-steady right hand man on lead and slide guitar and backing vocals,  Dave “Mr Guitar” Woods – who this year celebrates 50 years of playing professionally.

Joining the band are two new outstanding musicians who have over the years honed their individual crafts and now are permanent fixtures in the band. Lead vocalist Mark Evans plays a mean harp, fuelled I think on a mixture of F1 petrol, and he belted out song after song, and, a bit of banter was not lost on the crowd as he introduced cover after cover of straight R&B, no holds barred, in your face London pub style rock from the 70s and 80s – -brilliant.

New drummer Mark Prescot went into action and has a compendium of skills and fills – just amazing hands! The two Marks together are a cracking acquisition for this band, they now move on into an exciting new era. For me this band can do no wrong they are a band that you can’t ignore and have commanded this genre of music as their own, I can’t wait to see them again.

My thanks to Kath (The Boss) for making me welcome into her front room.
