Pristine – Detoxing

(Blues News)

Led by powerhouse vocalist Heidi Solheim, this five-piece out of Tromsø in the north of Norway shows a real flair for the raw, psychedelic blues on several numbers here. The Hammond organ underpinning these numbers adds a very late 60s/ early 70s feel, whilst guitarist Espen Jalobsen and well-known guest Knut Reiersrud have a real aptitude for the style.

Things take a rather more traditional blues-rock slant on ‘Breaking Bad’, and elsewhere the band turns in some fine, chugging southern-rock, a kind of funk/ hard rock hybrid with ‘Damage Is Done’, and an updating of Hendrix with the title track, which has a middle eastern/ (once again) psychedelic sound and runs to 11 minutes; the closing track takes its riff from The Beatles but goes far, far further out, man.
