Remarkably given his age, Ian Parker performed his first public concerts twenty years ago this year. At just 16, he began playing in pubs throughout the West Midlands with his first band ‘Strange Brew’, drawing inspiration from such blues-rock luminaries as Jimi Hendrix, Cream, and Fleetwood Mac. It was through these artists that Ian began a journey of discovery, delving deep into the history of a musical form originating thousands of miles from his native Stourbridge, in the cotton fields of Mississippi.
In the summer of 2003, performing as The Ian Parker Band, he signed a deal with Ruf Records following a personal introduction to internationally renowned record producer, David Z (Prince, Jonny Lang). Several albums and two live DVDs followed, alongside numerous appearances on national TV and radio throughout the world, most notably BBC Radio 2 in the UK, TROS Music Cafe in The Netherlands, and Rockpalast – Germany’s top live music TV show. Ian has toured extensively throughout the UK, Europe, and the USA in a career which has established him as one of the UK’s leading blues/roots singer-songwriters and guitarists.
Always rooted in the blues, but never trapped in them, Ian’s journey has taken him in many directions. When he embarks upon his UK tour in February, he’ll revisit material from various periods of his career to date, in what will be his first band venture in over two years, following a long series of solo performances since 2010. Lovers of the electric guitar will no doubt be pleased to see Ian’s Stratocaster back in action too!
This fresh line-up features his old ‘Strange Brew’ band mates, Dave Jenkins on bass and Chris Finn on drums, both of whom have also gone on to develop their talents and travel the world within the music business. In this three piece format, Ian’s songs, voice and guitar playing take on a rawer edge than ever before. There’s a freshness about the sound of some of his older well known material, which is peppered in this set with a selection of new bluesy songs destined to be committed to disc for a new album due out in 2013.
An exciting show not to be missed!!
