Irish guitar hero Simon McBride, lauded as the heir to Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore, plays The Kings Head in Carlisle this Thursday (20th June).

Hailing from Belfast he started playing guitar at the age of ten and soon won Guitarist Magazine’s ‘Young Guitarist of the Year’. Turning professional at the age of 16 he played with Andrew Strong of ‘The Commitments’ fame for six years before leaving to pursue a solo career and burst onto the blues scene.

His latest CD Crossing The Line is a fiery amalgam of guitar skills, songcraft and character-soaked vocals. Recorded in Northern Ireland and the USA, mixing of the album was placed in the experienced hands of New York-based Peter Denenberg, the veteran producer and engineer whose CV takes in everyone from Deep Purple to The Spin Doctors and Robert Cray. Industry critics reckon this is the album that truly delivers on McBride’s potential.

His music is based in solid blues and r ‘n’ b and this gig will showcase his acoustic skills in the intimate and atmospheric ‘Courtyard Live’ venue on Carlisle’s Fisher Street.

The tickets are £7 in advance for a rare opportunity to see the Irish maestro in such an intimate venue and £8 on the door.
