News: Blues Blast Awards nominations include British artists
Posted on: Tuesday, Jul 2, 2013
Two British artists (both on the Nugene Records label) are the only nominees from outside North America in the 2013 Blues Blast Awards announced today (27th June). The awards – now in their sixth year – are organised by Blues Blast, the Chicago-based weekly online magazine.
Londoner IAN SIEGAL is nominated in the Contemporary Blues Album category for his Memphis-recorded album, CANDY STORE KID. This much-admired work scored a nomination in the same category of the Blues Music Awards (in effect, the Grammys of the Blues) and is also nominated in the 2013 British Blues Awards.
CROSSING THE LINE, the latest release from fast-rising Northern Irish guitarist SIMON McBRIDE is nominated in the Blues-Rock Album category. McBride is being widely tipped as the successor to Irish compatriots Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore.
Nominations in the Blues Blast Awards are made by a panel of some 30 music industry professionals including journalists, festival promoters, music venue managers and musicians. Voting online, which starts 15th July, is free and open to the 22,000 Blues Blast magazine subscribers. The awards ceremony will be held 31st October at Buddy Guy’s Legends venue in Chicago.
