Thursday, 11th July

Hi everyone, refreshed after three weeks in the Spanish sun I’m back writing reviews from the finest musicians around the North West and beyond, and the Early Mac Band making their debut here at BJ’s was no exception (formerly Green Mac) – new personnel, new band, great music bringing to the table as the name suggests an array of early blues from Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac, Gary Moore,  Hendrix, B. B. King, Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson, and Elmore James-  the list goes on just excellent music for the diehard blues fans amongst us.

The Early Mac Band, based in the Leeds area, have four great musicians of the highest calibre, and the packed crowd here really appreciated what was put before them. The rhythm section of Peter Tallent on drums and Ol Jessop on bass guitar was absolutely spot on with Luke Smithson on lead vocal and guitar, partnered by Joel Dowson on lead guitar –  just excellent work from this duo, and I have to say their rendition of the classic track “Albatross” was nothing short of brilliant.

The whole show was terrific, all the classics done to a turn, Dust My Broom, Little Wing, Sweet Home Chicago, Still Got the Blues, Crossroads, and many more this was a Blues show with a capital” B” and one to savour.
