The Dana Dixon Band come down from Scotland to appear at Studio 2 @ Parr Street in Liverpool, on Friday, 25th October – free admission, 9.30 pm start.

“Many of us have longed for the emergence of a woman to blow the blues harp as did Big Mama Thornton fifty or more years ago….step forward Dana Dixon.” Michael Ford, editor, Blues in Britain Magazine.

International recording artist, blues harmonica player and singer Dana Dixon is set to tour the UK, Ireland and Europe with her band to promote the release of her third album Good Rockin’ Mama.

Considered to be one of the worlds top female blues harmonica players, Dana’s tone and playing have been compared to luminaries of the instrument James Harman, Rod Piazza and Kim Wilson and described as “powerful and drenched in emotion.” Dana’s vocals range from raw, authentic blues to soulful, gospel tones. Many reviewers have likened her to blues greats Koko Taylor, Big Mama Thornton and Janis Joplin.

Dana was influenced at an early age by her American father’s record collection, most of which he acquired in his home town of Austin, Texas. Its perhaps no surprise that The Dana Dixon Bands sound is an intoxicating mix of Texas and Chicago blues, jump swing blues, rockabilly and ’50s rock n roll with much emphasis placed on her dazzling harmonica skills and powerhouse vocals.

During her career Dana has performed at major festivals all over the world and has received numerous plaudits from the international blues press, DJs, fans and blues royalty alike. Blues legend Lazy Lester remarked “that girl is a harmonica wizard” after hearing Dana play for the first time. She was also invited to perform at BB Kings Blues Club in Memphis.

Fans of blues guitar are not neglected at a Dana Dixon Band gig. Guitarist Dave Dixon is regarded as “one of the best blues guitarists you are likely to see” whose intense playing is reminiscent of Magic Sam, T-Bone Walker, classic 50s era BB King and Jimmie Vaughan.

The band also features a driving, authentic rhythm section which will have feet tapping and hips shaking from the start. Lovers of blues and American roots music will not want to miss a chance to see The Dana Dixon Band.
