Gigs: Bowness Bay Blues Weekend 2014

Posted on: Friday, Nov 29, 2013

The 2013 Bowness Bay Blues Weekend, organised by the Rotary Club of Windermere, was a great success. The festival brought a host of brilliant blues musicians to Bowness-on-Windermere, packing out local pubs and clubs and raising around £6,000 for local charities.

The Rotary Club are now getting ready to do it all again on the weekend of 11-13 April 2014 (see for full details). This time, they have formed a partnership with the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, to help promote the festival and deal with ticket sales. For those who buy their tickets before 31 December 2013, there is a special Earlybird price of only £40 for the full weekend. Just click on:

Profits from the 2014 festival will again go to local charities.

The headliners for Bowness Bay Blues 2014 include Marcus Bonfanti (leading exponent of the new generation of British blues), Sean Webster (known for his inspired guitar playing and passionate vocals) and Midnight Train (featuring renowned singer Debbie Giles and legendary drummer Sam Kelly). Meanwhile, the Alex McKown Band, AWOL, The Brothers Groove, The Bullfrogs, Off the Hook, Slowburner and Tin Pan Alley will be playing electrifying blues rock in various venues over the weekend. In addition, there will be acoustic blues wizardry from Blue Swamp, folky blues from The Swaps, 1950s-style Chicago blues from Tommy Allen and Johnny Hewitt, boogie-woogie piano from Dan Burnett, acoustic ballads from Buzz Elliott, and blues, jazz and rock from local favourites The Elderly Brothers.

The new partnership between Bowness Bay Blues and the Brewery Arts Centre makes perfect sense, as the Brewery puts on some excellent blues gigs – with highly acclaimed artists such as Matt Schofield, The Cadillac Kings, Paul Lamb and the King Snakes, Danny Bryant and The Larry Miller Band scheduled to visit Kendal in the next few months.
