Highlights of the year – Ken Peace

Not a very bluesy year again for me. I haven’t really listened to many new CDs  of any genre, I continue to find older records more satisfying and warmer. I suppose that is just old age creeping up on me (or is that racing up on me).

I didn’t go to many live events either. This is something that I plan to redress in 2014.

I didn’t manage to make Carlisle due to work travel – However I did think that this festival had the best line up of any festival that I was aware of in 2013.

I have happy memories of Bangor-on-Dee Blues & Real Ale Festival way back in May, despite having to leave in the middle of the excellent set by Larry McRay.

I was also lucky enough to make another trip to the deep south in 2013 with the usual King Biscuit team of Paul Farmer, Paul Taylor and Pete Evans.  This year, we visited New Orleans and for 3/4 of us it was our first trip.  Let me say that the experience was excellent – everyone should visit New Orleans before they pass away. Music, food, atmosphere – all amazing. We even had superb weather.  A cracking time.

The King Biscuit Festival was a great as ever – there is really no substitute to being in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, the birthplace of modern blues, sitting on the levee in the sun, watching all the superb music. Such a great crowd also over there – thanks to all of you – Brits and ‘Mericans.

So here’s a picture of the bluesinthenorthwest.com away team in the heart of New Orleans, one dining and one sazeracs in hand.

Happy Christmas y’all. Play nice!
