Jo Harman, the blues, roots and soul infused artist that is taking the UK by storm, is to perform at The Atkinson on Friday, 2nd  May, at 8 pm.

Few artists have travelled so far, and so quickly, on the back of a self-released album, and Jo Harman is increasingly regarded as one of the most extraordinary stories to emerge in to today’s music scene. She is rated by many good judges as potentially the best blues, roots and soul infused artist to come out of the UK. Her evocative voice, compelling stagecraft and bone deep song writing have marked her out as a very special talent indeed.

2014 started well for Jo, with:

The Daily Mirror in a half page interview feature, describing Jo as being on course to become“the finest female soul blues vocalist in the UK”.

UK high-street Blues bible, Classic Rock Blues named Jo as ‘International Break Out Artist of the Year’.

The International title Country Music Magazine giving the album a 9/10 review and calling it “a landmark release”.

Proper Music (themselves named ‘Distributor’ of the year four times running by Music Week’) declared Jo’s debut ‘International Blues Album Of The Year’.

Jo Harman has built her career one live show at a time, progressing in short order to play (last year alone) nearly 50 festivals, including Bluesfest at the Royal Albert Hall and Parkpop in The Hague (attendance 300,000).

From initially self-releasing ‘Dirt On My Tongue’, very successfully, on her website to licensing it to V2 (Adele, Mumford and Sons) in Benelux (six months later) and then signing to The Big Chill in the UK. Jo has maintained an unwavering focus and commitment, with consistent sincerity and quality; bringing along the hearts and minds of others in the process.

Blessed with a truly expressive and exceptional voice, Harman’s music is a unique and contemporary take on the classic sounds of gospel, blues and soul; all underpinned by a simply compelling stage show and a dynamic range of heart felt songs of rare emotion.

You can watch Jo perform ‘Sweet Man Moses’ live on Vrige Geluiden Show on Ned 1 (Dutch equivalent of BBC1) here:

Stunning . . . our tip for 2013, Harman’s music mainlines the human soul” – The Blues Magazine (9/10)

“Cracking . . . get it!” – Mail on Sunday

What a voice!” – Classic Rock

“Album of 2013, if not the decade”– Blues Doodles

Jo Harman is just one of the outstanding talents we have as part of The Atkinson’s Women in Blues series this season. Chantel McGregor, known as one of the most exciting rock and blues musicians that the UK has ever produced is also making her debut appearance at The Atkinson.

Imagine the tone of Robin Trower, the inspiration of Hendrix, the influence of Stevie Ray Vaughan, the energy of Bonamassa, the intensity of Walter Trout and the haunting vocal of Stevie Nicks all rolled into one then let us introduce Chantel McGregor.
