VOTE NOW FOR LIVING BLUES AWARDS!
Voting is now open for the 2014 Living Blues Awards, and blues fans can vote for their favorite artists on this year’s Reader’s Ballot. Voting is free, quick, and easy. To cast your ballot, go to www.LivingBlues.com and click on the “VOTE” button on the right side of the page. Voting is open until July 15th. Winners will be announced in the August/September issue of Living Blues.
As usual, Blind Pig artists and recordings are well represented on the ballot:
Blues Artist of the Year
In its review of Sena’s latest release, All In, Living Blues called her “truly one of the most dynamic young voices any genre has seen in a long time” and added, “Sena Ehrhardt’s voice cannot get any more powerful, range-defying, and throwback cool.”
Most Outstanding Musician (Harmonica)
BILLY BRANCH, MARK HUMMEL, BILLY BOY ARNOLD, CHARLIE MUSSELWHITE
Earlier this year Chicago blues stalwarts Billy Branch and Sons of Blues released Blues Shock, their first studio album in fifteen years. Living Blues said the CD “provides ample proof that Branch’s unique blend of rootsy integrity and exploratory zeal remains potent.”
Mark Hummel, Billy Boy Arnold and Charlie Musselwhite are three of the pre-eminent harmonica players (along with Sugar Ray Norcia and James Harman) who are featured on “Remembering Little Walter,” the award-winning tribute recording to the late blues harmonica icon Little Walter Jacobs.
Most Outstanding Musician (Keyboard)
Victor is a principal member of the highly-acclaimed Southern roots “superstar” group Southern Hospitality. This dynamic performer just won the coveted Pinetop Perkins Blues Music Award for the second consecutive year.
Best Blues Album of 2013 (New Recordings)
“REMEMBERING LITTLE WALTER”
This unequaled live Little Walter tribute recording just took home two prestigious Blues Music Awards – “Album of the Year” and “Traditional Blues Album of the Year” and also received a Grammy nomination this year for “Best Blues Album.”
Best Blues Album of 2013 (Reissue Recordings)
ROOSEVELT SYKES “THE ORIGINAL HONEYDRIPPPER”
Considered the father of modern blues piano, Roosevelt recorded this delightful, intimate performance at the Blind Pig Cafe in 1977. Living Blues said, “The Original Honeydripper stands on its own as a powerful (and highly entertaining) documentation of his still-strong musical prowess and comic wit, even in the twilight of his career.”
