Gig: The Li’l Jimmy Reed Band feat. Bob Hall and The Cheshire Katz with Tommy Allen & Johnny Hewitt – The Buck House Hotel, Bangor-on-Dee – Saturday, 13th September
Posted on: Saturday, Aug 16, 2014
Doors 7 pm for 7.45 pm show – £10
From Pete Evans of ‘Goin’ Up The Country’:
This show is to celebrate 25 years ownership of the Hayes family at the Buck and coincides with the Wrexham Council Real Ale trail. Originally, the event with The Cheshire Katz was due on the 20th but the council brought it forward a week which then clashed with Li’l Jimmy’s gig in Worthenbury. We therefore decided that it would best to combine the gigs at Bangor rather than split our audience.
76 year old Li’l Jimmy from Alabama is the real deal blues man playing electric guitar and rack harp in the great 50s style of blues and is backed by a great band including veteran boogie woogie legend Bob Hall who was a founder member of Savoy Brown in the early 60s and has played with early Fleetwood Mac, The Stones and The Blues Band whilst also playing for USA legends, John Lee Hooker, Little Walter, Howlin’ Wolf and many more.
Finishing off the evening will be the 50s Blues, R’n’B and Rock ‘n’ Roll of The Cheshire Katz, the new band put together by Tommy Allen who is joined by Johnny Hewitt on harp, John Potter on double bass and Micky Barker on drums. They got everyone dancing at the Bangor festival in May and this prompted Karen the landlady to book them for this event.
Tickets at the bargain price of £10 can be obtained either from me or from Karen at The Buck on 01978 780336 or e-mail to: email@example.com
and of course there will be food available plus many real ales.
