Review for COLD FLAME and COLD FLAME ACOUSTIC @ The Old Black Bull, Preston – 13.09.14 and The Railway. Greenfield – 14.09.14 – http://www.cold-flame.co.uk/
It is always good to see a band of competent musicians … and that ‘COLD FLAME’ certainly are! Playing to the well filled Old Black Bull pub in the heart of Preston, they provided a great evening’s entertainment with some self arranged blues/rock covers and also a selection of self penned works. On vocals and superb lead guitar was Rob Barnes, also on vocals and drivin’ bass guitar was Pat Rowbottom. On keys and guitar, Phil Mark with Joe Orban on drums. A great mix of music, with takes of Hendrix and Free to Gary Moore and Peter Green.
We were lucky enough to catch the acoustic side of the band, ‘COLD FLAME ACOUSTIC’, the following evening at The Railway, Greenfield. With a different line up and a different slant to the music, which was leaning towards folk rock with Celtic overtones. Rob Barnes on excellent vocals and acoustic guitar, Pat Rowbottom on electric bass and vocals, Paul Newland on amazing electric violin and mandolin and Vince Walton on drums. Some great self arranged renditions of popular tunes with superb performances of Wade in the Water and Jiggery Pokery.
A versatile and hard working band, who appeal to a wide audience with their cross genre approach. They are a band of excellent musicians and are well worth catching, either in their electric or acoustic set up.
