Review for THE PADDY MAGUIRE BAND @ BJ’s ‘Rock in the Blues Club, The Minstrel, Chorley – 2.4.15 – http://www.paddymaguire.com/

We knew we were in for a high class performance at BJ’s ‘Rock in the Blues’ Club, The Minstrel, Chorley, with the brilliant Paddy Maguire Band playing to a packed house – and that’s what we got! From West Yorkshire the band are Paddy Maguire on guitar and vocals, Jenna Hooson Maguire on amazing vocals, Jamie Mallender on bass and Sean Fitzpatrick on drums.

Kicking off the evening with some classic Aretha Franklin ‘Chain Of Fools’, with Jenna laying down the rules. Onto a great rockin’ take of ‘Proud Mary’, then slowing down the pace with ‘Muddy Water Blues’, showing Jenna’s versatility. A dancing number ‘Nutbush City Limits’, moving onto the haunting Etta James classic ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’, a superb vocal challenge for Jenna, magic.

The second set brought Paddy to the forefront on vocals, with ‘I Want To Fly’ and continuing with some classic rock in Paddy’s own style. All for audience participation, Beryl stars again with a touch of ‘guitar playing’ with Paddy on ‘Rock Me Baby’, hilarious!

A couple of self penned numbers, with the beautiful ‘Love Still Grows’ and a new track ‘Red Headed Woman’ leaning towards classic rock. Finishing off the evening with Jenna’s ‘pièce de résistance’ the Janis Joplin’s classic ‘Mercedes Benz’ and ending the set with a touch of ‘soul’ .. a great end to a great evening with a great band.

The Paddy Maguire Band give you the best in blues rock and with Jenna Hooson Maguire on amazing power vocals, it is a band hard to top. We’ll definitely be seeing them back at BJ’s next year!
