Review for the GROUNDFLOOR BLUES BAND @ BJ’s ‘Rock in the Blues’ Club, The Minstrel, Chorley – 9.4.15 . https://www.facebook.com/TheGroundfloorBluesBand/info
Some new faces at BJ’s ‘Rock in the Blues’ Club, The Minstrel in Chorley, with the Liverpool band ‘Groundfloor Blues Band’ . Having only been on the circuit for a relatively short while, they certainly gave a tight and incredibly well put together performance, with an exceptional sound for a three piece line up. They are Mike Grant on class vocals and Vox guitar and slide, Jimmy Pendleton on pounding bass and Greg Leyland on technically superb drums.
Although they are primarily a covers band, their choice of material was varied ,including many blues classics from BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Cream, Rory Gallagher and more. The set kicked off with a great take of ‘One Foot In The Bayou’ which set the scene for the calibre of these guys. A brilliant first set finished off with the classic ‘Five Long Years’, with more to come.
The second set equalled the first with some added ZZ Top, Mayall and Free with a superb take on the Freddie King number ‘Pack It Up’ . To complete the set they performed the classic ‘Keys To The Highway’ and to finish, on what had been an exceptional gig, a great take of Clapton’s ‘Further On Up The Road’
With superb musicianship from the whole band, Mike’s vocals were spot on and his guitar playing was almost faultless. They will definitely be back at BJ’s next year and I hope they have luck in finding more platforms for the music that they play, as The Groundfloor Blues Band certainly have that little ‘extra’!
