Tensheds – The Dandy Punk Prince

(Own release)

Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Nick Cave – rock mavericks with the slightest of toehold to the blues, but whose music may interest some blues lovers. Perhaps we can add Tensheds to that list: he has supported the likes of John Mayall and Mick Taylor, and he describes the music on this emotion-laden CD as “21st Century Blues”, despite recording it on a nearly 200 years old piano.

But then his engineer does his wizardry, there is the addition of occasional harmonica, glockenspiel and percussion, plus drums and vocals, with the result that to the influence of those three names mentioned at the beginning (Dylan is very strong on ‘Powder Blues Leather Pinned Mohair Noose’), we can add some strong classical elements and hints of Champion Jack Dupree, Allen Toussaint, Katy Perry (!)  and Jerry Lee Lewis. Rather different and individual then…
