I only shot one short video clip. Here’s Bill Sheffield live at the Worthenbury Roots and Blues Festival 2008.

Groundhog56 has posted some new videos of the recent Ian Siegal gig at Warrington Blues Club.
Go to his video channel to check them out.
I only recorded one partial song. Unfortunately it was probably his weakest song of the night but to counter that statement it was still pretty good.
Bow Wow.
A great video clip of Harry Skinner and Dave Saunders playing “Got To Move” recorded at Worthenbury on Dec 14th last year has just been uploaded onto the video section of the Wrexham/Worthenbury website www.hookerblues.co.uk
There are three new videos on the Hookers website from the recent birthday celebrations.
The site features videos from Trafficker, Karac and The Three (grumpy old) Musketeers (!)
Check out http://www.hookerblues.co.uk and click on the videos link at the top of the page.
Pete says…
Any promoters who might like to book Karac, as they really are a cracking band, contact me at pete@hookerblues.co.uk
Here’s a clip from the Northwest. It’s Charlie Baty from Little Charlie and the Nightcats playing a swinging instrumental from Colne in 2005.
I said that I would upload a few pictures of the excellent gig on Friday night. Here they are. As I already mentioned and apologised for, the pictures are a little light on Memo and a little heavy on Band of Thieves.
The best photos are in this Flickr photoset.
There is also one YouTube clip of the night.
Here’s a fabulous YouTube clip from Doug MacLeod’s recent UK tour. Better still the clip was recorded slap bang middle in the bluesinthenorthwest.com territory at the fabulous Blues Club at the Harbourside in Liverpool.
I can even hear the distinctive laugh of friend and bluesinthenorthwest.com contributor Lionel on the backing.
Doug is tremendous, a great player, singer and raconteur. If you ever get the chance go and see him.

Today is also a great day for posting this as on this day Doug celebrates his 61st birthday.
Doug MacLeod - Born 21 April 1946 in NYC, NY
I went to see Johnny Mastro and MamasBoys at Warrinton Blues Club on Friday night and a good night was had by all. I heard that they were the highlight of the Burnley Festival and blew the crowd away Easter weekend.
A proper review will follow later as I’m not much of a writer, but here are my first thoughts and my pictures and video clips.
I was really glad to see a band play with some energy and balls without playing the rock blues card, anyone who knows me well will know that I am not the worlds biggest fan of rock blues - I love blues and I love rock - I just don’t dig blues rock. Anyway, soapbox away, back to the review. All the players were very capable indeed, the highlight for me was the drummer Jim Goodall, looking like a cross between Jarvis Cocker and Stuart Copeland he drove the band from the back and was clearly enjoying every moment. I also mention the bass player (who’s name I didn’t catch but was last seen by me backing Eric Sardinas a few years ago in Wrexham). Those two at the back actually made it pretty easy I think for the two lead instruments and vocals to shine.
It wasn’t a perfect gig by any means, for me there was a little two much emphasis on the slide guitar and the mix was a bit muddy with slightly unclear vocals and the harp just a a tad too quiet (or was it the rest of the instruments that were too loud?). Jim Goodall was certainly loud. I’d also like to have seen the band mix up the grooves a little more than they did. But the gut-wrenching drive of the mid tempo shuffles and the beautiful slow blues tunes were very impressive. One could not help but to tap one’s foot with the groove. There was definitely a shot of the 60s in the performance - that 60’s style energy is often missing from current groups.
Highly recommended.
As is the custom I captured a few short YouTube clips and some poor photos. The best YouTube is this short clip of the LedZep inspired slow blues, with excellent guitar work from Dave Melton. The other YouTubes can be seen by following this link.
All the photos are uploaded to Flickr - sorry about the quality.
It’s ages since I have been out to see a live band; there are a couple of reasons for this, I have been very busy with my day job shuffling around trying to make a living, plus there hasn’t been a huge amount for me to see within easy striking distance of Chester.
So it was a great pleasure last night to drive over to Warrington Blues Club to see North West favourites The Stumble, they are a cracking band; good lead instrumentalists are easy to come by in the UK, however much rarer is a good rhythm section and a top singer. The Stumble have all three. I’m not going to write a review, as someone more talented than I will contribute I am sure, however I will say “Excellent show lads!” and give my thanks to Ray and Barbara for booking the band.
I took a few pictures and unbelievably they are even worse than the rubbish that I usually take. My camera is fine - it’s the driver who is inept. Anyway the pictures are here and the YouTube clip is here.
A great night last night was had by all. The incredible Memo Gonzalez and the Bluecasters were back in the UK and were as hot as habañero and cool as iced tea.
I am sure that Grahame will write a proper review so I will just post the usual executive summary. Man what a great band! I just love that Texas bar-room set list: blues, soul, rock and roll, 50’s jukebox pop, even surf guitar. Every member of the band contribute equally - a rock solid rhythm section, killer guitar, tough harp and vocals. Not forgetting Memo and Kai’s excellent songs.
As ever there a a few crappy pictures (my fault not the band’s fault) - I didn’t get the chance to take many as I forgot earlier on, when I finally remembered that I had a camera the dancefloor was full and I didn’t want to get in the way.
All pictures available from my Flickr pages.

I’ll be going up to Warrington to see one of my favourite European bands on Friday. If you need an encouragement to come along then check out my video clips from previous tours.
There’s one from April 2003 and one from September 2003.
Last night I went over to Warrington to see the double header - Blues from the Big Room. I am not much of a reviewer so I hope that Grahame will be putting down a few choice words that will make a proper review. In the meantime, here are my unstructured thoughts. I apologise to all the grammaticists for the split infinitives - writing reviews always brings out the devil in me.
Ian Siegal was on first and once again showed why he one of the big draws on the current scene. He always plays with passion and quickly got the substantial audience involved and enjoying themselves. Ian is not an out and out blues act; he successfully brings in touches of Tom Waits and C&W into the mix (he actually manages very convincing Tom Waits and Johnny Cash style vocals). Once again I was very impressed with the whole package, Siegal’s vocals and guitar were very strong and the band were once again rock solid and clearly having fun. Their solidity is not surprising as the band have recently celebrated 10 years together.
Other photos available here and I captured a couple of short video clips here and here.
The Nimmo Brothers followed on and played an incredibly loud set of swaggering blues rock. I have to admit that I am not a huge fan of the Nimmo Brothers, the band are supremely confident and very talented both instrumentally and vocally, but I find them a little too much especially their ‘look at me, look at me’ attitide. They powered their way through a set of shuffles, minor-keyed moods and out and out rockers. There was a lot of guitar work and not much light and shade. I got to thinking that the way that the Nimmos delivered the song “Shape I’m In” was less like these and more like these. Don’t get me wrong, if you love your blues from the rockier end of the spectrum, then these guys are tremendous, they just did not work for me. The majority of the crowd loved them and I understand why. Why don’t you leave a comment and let me know what you think.
I didn’t take any pictures of the Nimmo Brothers but luckily I stumbled across these pictures from NinaMarieLouise
Finally I would just like to say what a great job by Ray and Barbara putting this show on. Thanks guys.
