Ian Siegal on Raven ‘n’ Blues

Last week’s Raven ‘n’ Blues podcast featured an interview and live performance by the fabulous Ian Siegal.

As ever with Dave Raven’s shows, he records an inteview of about 45-60 mins then edits a 20min portion into the final show.  Both files are always available for download or listening online.

You can hear he whole interview at http://www.bfbs2.com/rnb.html - simply click Ian’s name for the MP3

The final broadcast show featuring the segment on Ian along with tunes from Sue Foley, Diamond Dave & the Doodaddies and Grayson Capps amongst others is available at http://www.bfbs2.com/listen/rnb.html

BluePower.Com: Blind Pig Celebrates 30th Anniversary!

I first heard of Blind Pig records when I bought my first Walter Horton CD.  Here’s a good short article about the history of Bling Pig Records followed by a BluePower podcast.

Live music and chat from Doug MacLeod

The excellent podcast Raven ‘n’ Blues this week features a live session with Doug MacLeod. Like with many other of his guests, Dave Raven has uploaded the whole conversation that he had with Doug. A subset of the session will be part of the regular radio show at the weekend.

So here’s what you should do…..

1. Pop over to the MP3 podcast page on the Raven ‘n’ Blues LibSyn site and download the full version - or you can listen online.

2. Listen regularly to the full radio show - it’s available on the same link as above.

If anyone needs a bit of technical assistance in how to download, subscribe and listen to podcasts then give me a shout.

The Lazy Jumpers

Last week’s Raven and the Blues podcast started with a bouncy, retro, shuffly little tune from a band that I had not heard of before. The Lazy Jumpers from Spain (I’m not exactly sure where - I remember it was the lovely East coast).

Lo and behold they are over here on tour - if you are within striking distance go and check them out.

They have a website, a MySpace and some YouTube presence.

Interview and live session : Derrin Nauendorf

This week’s Raven ‘n’ Blues broadcast and podcast featured Derrin Nauendorf.

The way that Dave Raven organises his shows is that he records about an hour of chat and music of his featured guest then edits this down to about 15 mins in the final show.

You can download the hour long Derrin Nauendorf interview from here or the regular show (including Derrin, Bob Margolin, Dr. John, Ian Parker, BB King and others) from here.

One for the harp lovers…

The playlist for the latest Bandana Blues podcast - Show 171 - looks very harp orientated this week, especially Spinner’s Section. I haven’t downloaded it yet but the show kicks off with the super hot, dynamite and rocking Jason Ricci and New Blood - the guy who is taking the harmonica community by storm. In balance to all this modern frippery Spinner’s Section consists of the following…..

George Smith: California blues (1956) (oopin’ doopin’ doopin’, Ace, 1982)

Sonny Boy Williamson: cross my heart (Down And Out Blues, Chess, 1959)

Walter ‘Shakey’ Horton: good moanin’ blues (The Soul Of Blues Harmonica, Chess, 1964)

Little Walter: just your fool (Boss Blues Harmonica, Chess, 1972)

Junior Parker: blue shadows falling (You Don’t Have To Be Black To Love The Blues, Groove Merchant, 1974)

Podcast : Dave Kelly live and in conversation

There is an excellent interview and live songs from Dave Kelly on the excellent Podcast Raven’n'Blues. Dave joined Dave on the top deck of the houseboat in the Thames for about an hour of conversation and live acoustic songs. The session will be edited down to a shorter segment in the main show that will get posted at the weekend. You can download all the MP3s from the RnB Libsyn site or this link will take you straight to the Dave Kelly MP3.
I highly recommend Raven’n'Blues it’s a great weekly programme - if you are debating whether to enter the digital age and buy an MP3 player for Christmas then I heartily recommend that decision and heartily recommend this radio programme.

Remember, podcasts are not just for your iPod you can play them on your computer.

Great videos of Otis Taylor and Kim Wilson

I took a look through the Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour website. They have an archive of the video and audio podcasts going back a few years. There are diamonds on those archives; I found two great video podcasts.

Show 169 features superb performances by Kim Wilson and Otis Taylor. Two fantastic blues singers with expressive soulful voices. Wilson is backed by the incredible Gene Taylor on Piano. For the encore the three of them play together.

Show 265 features Kim Wilson again, but this time backed by the very talented Troy Gonea on guitar.

The shows are quite long but very worth the download. Due to the size (about 150MB each) I would not recommend playing online. Kick off the download while you nip into the wine cellar to select a fine vintage, by the time you have chosen a wine, dusted off the bottle and allowed it to breathe for 10 mins the video wil be sitting there on your hard drive.

Right click the links to allow saving to your local drive.  If you are still on dialup then forget it. Broadband only, my friends.

Joe Bonamassa : interview and live acoustic session

When Dave Raven of Raven n Blues on BFBS Radio2 interviews a guest for his weekend blues radio show and podcast, he records about an hour of interview then makes an edited version to include in the main show. The genius idea is that he also makes the whole unedited interview available as a podcast.

I know that there are many Bonamassa fans in this region so pop on over to the download page to hear the interview with Joe Bonamassa and to hear him sing and play a few acoustic tunes.

New UK Blues Podcast

JimmyC emails to announce the launching of his brand new Podcast, Jimmy says….

Hambone’s Blues Rumshack will concentrate on playing and promoting British Blues bands and internet sites for bands like Podshow, Garageband and MySpace.

Episode one featured tracks from Lil Ed and the Blues Imperials, Cephas and Wiggins, MG James, Dave Arcari, Lazy Poker and Shetland’s very own and the program house band the Rumshack Blues band.

I’m looking for bands to get in touch if they want to be played by supplying CD’s of their music, so if you could give me a mention on your blog and pass the word around of the podcasts existence I would very much appreciate it.

Better link for Dave Raven’s podcast

It seems I was looking at the Podcast feed page on Feedburner rather than Dave’s real site. So please take a look at this link to go to Dave Raven’s blues podcast page. I listen every week, highly recommended.

Dave Raven podcast extra note

I just followed the link to Dave’s page and on my screen it doesn’t display well as there’s a chuffing large picure forcing the screen to scroll. Don’t let this worry you, just follow the link and scroll down a bit to see the pictures and enjoy the music.
