Fab T-Birds on BBC Radio 2

Grahame reminded me that the whole of the Paul Jones programme this week on BBC radio 2 was devoted to the Fabulous Thunderbirds. There were cuts from Kim Wilson solo and T-Birds CDs, a nice interview with Kim and a segment of the live show recorded in London during the recent tour.

You can still listen again to the show if you follow this link.

Doug MacLeod on Paul Jones this Thursday

New radio station launches

Christmas Day saw the launch of an all-new digital radio station called thejazz.
Available on DAB, on Sky and NTL’s radio channels and online at www.thejazz.com, the station will play a range of music across the jazz genre and plans to engage listeners in a debate throughout 2007 by asking listeners to discuss “What is jazz?”

Darren Henley, station manager of Classic FM and thejazz, says: “Just as Classic FM has taken classical music into the mainstream, so we want to make jazz a part of everyday life in the UK.”

The digital-only station, which went on air at 9am on Christmas Day, will operate as a sister service to GCap-owned Classic FM.

Like Classic, GCap hopes theJazz will develop as a brand across live concerts, CDs, books, podcasts, downloads, a website and TV programming.

According the www.thejazz.com website

theJazz will play a wide range of jazz genres such as bebop, swing, cool jazz, trad, blues and modern jazz.

Some of the artists featured on the station will include Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Stan Getz, Oscar Peterson, Charles Mingus, Louis Armstrong, Weather Report, Branford Marsalis, Denys Baptiste, Jamie Cullum, Diana Krall and Madeleine Peyroux to name but a few.

Our full playlist will follow in January 2007.

Only time will tell just how much of the programming will be blues. I will pass on more information as I receive it.

Radio : Brad Wheeler - Free Radio Utah

Pete Evans writes…

Bad Brad Wheeler who played at Worthenbury in August has his own show on Free Radio Utah on www.KRCL.org
It really is excellent. On Thursdays from 8.30pm to 10pm.  Strongly recommended.
Incidentally, he was in the opinion of many who were at the gig, one of the best harp players we have heard and he teaches harp in the “Blues In The Schools” programme and on Oct 15th is hoping to break the world record by organising the most harp players playing in one place at the same time - I think he said over 18,000 in a ball stadium in Ogden, Utah.
