PRESS RELEASE: PRESS RELEASE

LINE-UP FOR 2ND COLWYN BLUES FESTIVAL ANNOUNCED

A TOP line-up of musicians is scheduled to appear at Colwyn Bay’s second festival to celebrate blues music.

THE COLWYN BLUES FESTIVAL launched last year at Theatr Colwyn in the town and did so well that it is back again for 2009 – and this time it’s even bigger!

The Gutbucket Blues Band, Stormy Monday Blues Band and Down At Antones headline at the venue on Saturday, May 30, while on Sunday, May 31, the headline names will be The Crawl Blues Band, The Blues Gang and The John O’Leary Band.

In addition to last year’s programme, other blues bands will now play at five of the town’s pubs on the Saturday and Sunday from 3pm.

Barry Townsend, a stalwart volunteer at Theatr Colwyn, is once again helping to organise the festival in conjunction with the venue’s management and staff and, for the first time, the town’s publicans.

He said: “ We’ve brought in some of the country’s best blues bands especially for the festival as it continues to grow, already expanding beyond the original Theatr Colwyn venue.

“Most of the local pubs have joined in and will be providing ‘fringe’ sessions with other bands as well as the main acts in the theatre. They have also arranged  ‘real ale’ special beers to be available during the weekend.

“It is hoped that all of Colwyn will see this as an important step in putting the town on the national map as others have already done which, in turn, will bring in lots of tourists for this event and other themed weekends to follow.

Tickets for the festival are now on sale (£12 for one day, £18 for the weekend) via Theatr Colwyn’s box office on 01492 532668 / 872000. For more information visit the festival’s website at www.colwynbluesfestival.com
