Down at Antone’s – The Cheshire Cheese, Frodsham
18 July 2009
Northwest blues band Down at Antone’s play a rare pub gig in Cheshire this month. The band appear at The Cheshire Cheese in Frodsham on Sat 18 July 2009.
In the 1990s Down at Antone’s built up a formidable reputation as one of the must see blues bands of the era, in 1997 the band split to pursue other interests. Band leader Neil Partington continued to play his blend of tough Texas blues, but mixing it with a healthy splash of soul and funk in a number of notable northwest soul and funk outfits. Harmonica man Ken Peace retired from the music business (or so he thought) to concentrate on bringing up a family, building a career and increasing his collar size.
In 2009 they are back. With an all-new rhythm section and the addition of keyboards to fill out the sound. All the traditional Down at Antone’s features are there — the stinging Texas blues guitar of Neil Partington, the big-toned harmonica of Ken Peace, the powerful vocals of Neil Partington and a super-cool, super-tight rhythm section.
Please come and join the band for a session of tough blues, cool blues, jazzy blues, funky blues and plain old blues blues along with a dash of New Orleans spicy sauce.
Members of Down at Antone’s have played with a number of music legends e.g. Jools Holland, UK vocalist extraordinaire Sam Brown, T.M. Stevens from James Brown’s band, harmonica legend Lee Oscar and the one of the greatest guitarists ever, superstar David Gilmour from Pink Floyd.
Admission is free. The pub is small and friendly, and the beer is good. Get there early for a good seat.
